SCDSB, Sudbury and District Health Unit and MADD Canada Present “Mind Control”

As part of Drug Awareness Week the Sudbury Catholic District School Board in conjunction with the Sudbury and District Health Unit and MADD Canada will be presenting, Mind Control, a multi-media assembly program which addresses impaired driving.

The presentation is directed to the Grade 7 to 12 students at the Sudbury Catholic District School Board with the focus on false perceptions about alcohol, drugs and driving that distort reality.

Topics include:
• peer pressure
• trusting the good judgement of the driver
• binge drinking
• performance pressure from school and parents
• media messaging about lifestyle and culture

Mind Control is accompanied by music video clips and fast paced graphics. The presentation will take place at Marymount Academy, 165 D’Youville Street, Tuesday, November 21 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:15 p.m.

St. Charles College Hosts Volleyball Tournament

It was an exciting weekend at SCC. With 7 schools present all teams had a minimum of 7 games following quarter-final , semi-final and Final games.

In the quarter-fianl we had St. Raphael playing St. Francis B . St. Raphael defeated St. Franics B 2 game to 1. While in the other quarter final we had Pius XII playing st. Charles. Pius XII defeated St. Charles to a score of 2 to 1.

In the semi-final we had Pius XII playing St. Francis A. St. Francis defeated Pius XII 2 staigh sets. While in the other semi-final we had St. Anne againstt St. Raphael. St. Raphael defeated St. Anne to a score of 2 – 0.

In the final consolation we had st. Anne againstt Pius XII and St. Anne defeated Pius XII by a score of 2 to 1.
In the final we had st. francis a playing st. raphael. St. Francis defeated st. Raphael 2 set to none but the games were very close.

St. Mary School to Host Esso Family Math Night

On Thursday November 16, 2006, St. Mary Catholic School families with students in Grades JK to Grade 5 will participate in an Esso Family Math Night. The evening will begin with a spaghetti supper at 6:00 p.m. followed by math-based activities and games geared for family play. Miss Waern will present “My Teddy and Me” focusing on students in grades JK to 1, while Mrs. Stirrett will facilitate a session on Number Sense and Numeration.

Parents will be able to experience working with the same manipulatives that their children use on a daily basis. This exciting evening is the first of six such sessions that are planned over the next two school years. It promises to be an exciting night with more than 60 people preregistered to date.

St. Benedict Catholic Secondary School Presents ‘An Inconvenient Truth’

In the hope of raising greater awareness of Global Warming,
St. Benedict Catholic Secondary students currently enroled in science courses and those involved with the environmental club have been invited to a private showing of Al Gore’s recent documentary: An Inconvenient Truth.

The film focuses on the effect of climate change and will allow high school students to become educated re the climate crisis that will pose a formidable problem for their generation.

The screening of an Inconvenient Truth will take place at the Rainbow Cinemas, 40 Elm Street, Sudbury, on Tuesday, November 14, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. This event has been sponsored by Canadian Injury Management Services and busing for the school’s students has been provided by the Rotary Club.

Bishop Alexander Carter Catholic Secondary School to Hold Annual Spaghetti Dinner

Bishop Alexander Carter Catholic Secondary School will be hosting its annual Spaghetti Dinner this Thursday, November 9, 2006 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the school’s gym. The dinner will be served by the Knights of Columbus and the Bishop Carter Leadership Class. There will be draws, dances and exciting activities taking place throughout the dinner.

Tickets will be on sale at the door and in advance for $5.00 per person with proceeds going toward the Bishop Alexander Carter Athletics.
