St. Benedict CSS Pays Tribute to Canadian Troops and Canadian War Veterans at Remembrance Day Ceremony

St. Benedict Catholic Secondary School will be holding a Remembrance Day Ceremony on Friday, November 10, 2006 starting at 1:20 p.m. at the school, 2993 Algonquin Road in Sudbury to recognize the troops of the Canadian Forces and Canadian War Veterans.

The ceremony will also include a special tribute to the Wilson Family. On October 7, 2006, Trooper Mark Wilson of the Royal Canadian Dragoons, lost his life near Kandahar, Afghanistan while driving supplies to fellow soldiers who were working on the area roads and repairing a bridge. Though Trooper Wilson was buried in London, Ontario, his family resides in Sudbury, and his eldest son, Joshua, is a grade 12 student at St. Benedict Catholic Secondary School. Joshua’s younger brother Benjamin attends St. Christopher Catholic School.

Mrs. Dawn Wilson has graciously agreed to participate in the Remembrance Day Ceremony with her two sons and will lay one of the wreaths at the Cenotaph (built by the school’s woodworking class). Present for this Ceremony will be some of St. Benedict Catholic Secondary School students that belong to the 134 Admiral Mountbatten Royal Canadian Sea Cadet Corps, 200 Wolf Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron, the 2912 Royal Canadian Army Cadet Corps, as well as soldiers and reservists from the 2nd Irish Regiment of Canada. The Pipe and Drum Band of the 200 Wolf Squadron will lead the procession of more than 30 young men and women in uniform. Both Members of Parliament have also been invited.
