We were honoured to welcome our international students to Sudbury Catholic Schools for the 2017-2018 school year! The 11 students are from various places in China and Vietnam and are completing studies in our Secondary schools this year.
We welcomed our new friends with a traditional Canadian BBQ, featuring chicken and porketta sausage cooked by St. Benedict Catholic Secondary School teacher Mike Sipos (winner of Cook for Me Sudbury in 2015).
We are so grateful to our host families for guiding our students in their journey and thankful for our wonderful staff for their leadership in providing educational opportunities for all. We hope all students involved in the program have a successful and inspirational year!

What school will my child attend?
If you are new to your neighbourhood or new to our board, the Student Services Consortium can help you locate the school closest to your home or daycare and arrange for busing for your child if eligible. Be sure to specify the Sudbury Catholic District School Board and be prepared to provide your child’s grade and program (Regular or French Immersion). If you wish to send your child to a school outside of your boundary, please contact the principal of the desired school to discuss your options.
How do I register my child?
See our list of schools for school website and contact information, and then contact the school in August to make an appointment to register. Secondary schools reopen for registration on August 21st. Elementary schools reopen on August 28th. Please remember to bring:
• Birth Certificate or Passport
• Baptism Certificate
• Immunization Card
Can I register my child if he or she is not baptized?
If an elementary student or at least one of his or her parents/guardians is baptized Catholic, the student will be enrolled using the standard registration process. If an elementary student does not meet this criteria he or she may still enrol. Please contact the school to arrange for a discussion about the process.
Secondary schools in Ontario are ‘open access’ and we are pleased to welcome all students in grades 9 through 12. If you are a non-Catholic family and have questions about Catholic education and the rights and responsibilities of students who attend Catholic secondary schools, please contact the school for further information prior to registering.
For further information on the registration process please see Admission to Catholic Schools.
How can I register my child for On-site Day Care, Best Start and Before & After School Programs?
These programs operate independently from Sudbury Catholic Schools . Please contact the daycare directly after referencing the list of programs and services by school.

Measuring Up at St. David School
St. David students continue to learn how numeracy is everywhere in the real world. St. David School teaches mathematical skills across the curriculum and this includes the Core French program taught by Mr. Louis Mailloux. “The students have the opportunity to build flower boxes and build their confidence. They have fun, see real world math skills in action and learn a second language all at the same time”. These hands-on opportunities contribute to the development of a broader and deeper understanding of numeracy.
Kindergarten Teachers to Visit China!
Three Kindergarten teachers from the Sudbury Catholic District School Board will be travelling to China to support a student Summer Camp this coming August. At the invitation of Jinguo, Rosemary Tripodi, Alice Desormeaux and Lina Reale will be travelling to Yunman, China to participate in Kunming Jinguo Kindergarten Summer Camp from August 11 to August 20th, 2017.
The Sudbury Catholic District School Board has established a partnership with Jinguo as part of the International Student Program. The program helps to provide learning opportunities for both students and teachers involved. The teacher’s presence in Yunman will provide an opportunity for them to share best practices in Canadian kindergarten classrooms, as well as learn from their peers at Jinguo. Each teacher will be paired with one or two Chinese teachers and work as a team throughout the experience at the Camp.
“We believe that our common enthusiasm toward education, foreign languages and cultures will be enhanced with this visit,” said Rosemary Tripodi, Kindergarten teacher at Holy Trinity Catholic Elementary School. “It is also a great opportunity for us to learn more about the Chinese culture and to share best practices for the advancement of both our education systems.”
“I feel most fortunate to have this opportunity to travel to China and learn about their culture while collaborating with Kindergarten educators,” said Lina Reale, Kindergarten Teacher at Holy Cross Elementary School. “ I am looking forward to expanding my learning as well as sharing best practices. I am sure it will be an unforgettable experience as China has much history and beauty to offer its visitors.”
“The trip will offer a wonderful experience for us to learn about culture and teaching from a different perspective,” said Alice Desormeaux, Kindergarten Teacher at St. Anne. “I look forward to collaborating with the teachers between both countries and discussing various ways we can all improve our practices.”
