SCDSB Top Two at Cambrian College 6th Annual Business Olympics

Through funding from the provincial School/College/Work Initiative (SCWI), Cambrian College’s Business Olympics was held on March 6, 2012. Students from the Sudbury Catholic District School Board as well as the Rainbow District School Board participated in three different activities which included a storyboard/commercial presentation, a manufacturing exercise, as well as a logo identification game. A total of 18 teams with four students per team participated in the activities which were led by faculty from Cambrian College’s School of Business. Three teams were selected as the top winners:

1st Place – Marymount Academy – Brainpower – Team members include: Sandy Qiu, Corissa VendeWeghe, Emily Buss, and Stephanie Gustas. Each team member received an iPod Shuffle with a $25 iTunes gift card.

2nd Place- St. Benedict Catholic Secondary School – Bear’s Den – Team members include: Mark Abantao, Olivia Conrad, Alex Mensour, and Mark Vettoretti. Each team member received an authentic Cambrian College hooded sweatshirt.

3rd Place – Lively District Secondary School – Hawks Inc. – Team members include: Ashley Staalstra, Jade Stos, Dylanne Taylor, and Brandon Beneteau. Each team member received a $25 Cineplex movie gift card.

SUDBURY CATHOLIC ELEMENTARY HANDBALL TOURNAMENT UPDATE

Due to weather conditions – the boys elementary handball tournament scheduled for Saturday March 3 has been cancelled but will take place at a later date — coaches will be notified.
The girls elementary handball tournament scheduled for Sunday will continue as planned at St. Benedict Catholic Secondary School.

Student Engagement using Technology in Math

Sudbury Catholic District School Board Math Facilitator, Krista Sarmatiuk, uses her ipad to record, Grade 3 student, Jacob Castonguay while he explains his geometric creation. Grade 2 and 3 students at St. Charles Elementary school in Chelmsford use virtual pattern blocks to create and describe creatures with 2D shapes.

TRANSPORTATION CANCELLED, SCHOOLS REMAIN OPEN – SUDBURY, ESPANOLA, MASSEY AND MANITOULIN DISTRICTS

Due to road and weather conditions and in the interest of safety all school related transportation services for English catholic, English public, French catholic and French public schools, operating in the Districts of SUDBURY, ESPANOLA, MASSEY AND  MANITOULIN DISTRICTS (this includes all areas such as St-Charles, Noelville, Monetville, Markstay, Hagar, Warren, Wahnapitae, Coniston, Killarney, Whitefish, Onaping, Chelmsford, Capreol, Valley East, Garson, Chelmsford, Azilda, …) are cancelled today. All schools will remain open, however, NO transportation will be provided. Parents who transport their children to school are reminded that they must pick their children up at the end of the school day.
All staff is expected to report to work.

Christmas Authors Enjoy the Fruits of their Labour at St. Charles Elementary

The grade 3/4 French Immersion students St. Charles Elementary Catholic school made their own Christmas book and wrote their own stories to put in it.
