Help Marymount’s students win the Young Entrepreneurs, Make Your Pitch competition!

Young Entrepreneurs, Make Your Pitch is a high school entrepreneurship competition presented by Ontario Centres of Excellence and the Ministry of Economic Development and Growth as part of the Youth Jobs Strategy. The competition challenges students in Grades 9-12 to pitch their business ideas in a two-minute video that will be voted on by the public and expert judges. Finalists will present their ideas in front of a judging panel in Toronto at Discovery for a chance to receive reserved entry into the Summer Company program.

Grade 11 & 12 students Emma Chamberland, Alexandra Caverson, Alessandra Kempsen, and Caitlyn Wiermeir aspire to start an embroidery company within Marymount Academy. Their ultimate goal for the student-run school company is to reduce the cost of embroidered apparel to allow all students the opportunity to purchase Regal Wear and customized school clothing.

Please vote for our video using the link below. Voting is open until 1:00 pm on Thursday, April 20th.

The Easter Bunny arrives early at St. David School

Full day kindergarten students at St. David School took the inquiry model one step further. The students and their teachers spent the morning on school trails exploring spring’s effect on our natural environment. The students participated in a hands on literacy and numeracy based activity.

Using their spatial awareness skills and their pre-reading abilities, each student located an “Easter Egg” that was created specifically for them. They explored and noted the seasonal changes happening in nature as they hunted for eggs containing special Easter treats.

Staff members took this opportunity to educate students about the dangers of fast moving water and the importance of stewardship.

St. David School reminds all families to register for the fall of 2017. (705) 674-4096, 549 Frood Rd., Sudbury, Ontario.

Grade 8 Junior Cards are serious about Science

Grade 8 Cards were invited to the secondary wing at St. Charles College to learn about the different strands of science today.
The students were on rotations all day to learn about biology, technology, earth sciences, chemistry and physics in order to prepare them for next year.

The students did everything from building bridges and water filtration systems to studying onions and cheek cells under a microscope.

They were then treated to a pizza lunch and lime green Science shirts for an upcoming Cards Wear day.
The Secondary Science team organized this day under the direction of Program Leader Tim Kingshott.

We thank the team for making this day possible for our future
