Dan Levecque presented Julie Dion and Nancy Thompson with the William Henry Memorial Cup on April 3, 2019. The WILLIAM HENRY MEMORIAL CUP: Awarded to the affiliated school with the largest lifesaving program in Ontario. St. Charles College currently holds the Cup.
The Royal Canadian Legion was at St. Anne Catholic Elementary School to celebrate the many winners of the Remembrance Day Poster and Essay Contest. Tyler Rideout, Grade 8 Student won the Gold Medal for his Remembrance Day Essay. The school community came together to congratulate Tyler and had the pleasure of hearing Tyler’s very moving essay first hand. Tyler’s essay has now been submitted Provincially.
The
Sudbury Catholic District School Board held a Board Wide Science Fair on March
7, 2019 at St. Charles College.
The
fair included 40 projects which were presented by students in Grade 7 and 8. Scientists
from Science North attended the event to serve as judges. Project topics included:
exploring the human body, radiation, plant growth experiments, nutrition and
much more!
The
winners of this year’s Science Fair were as follows:
First
Place: A Brighter Idea, Isabella Pandolfo (Marymount Academy)
Second
Place: The Medi Talk, Hayley Wood (Marymount Academy)
Third Place: Does Colour Affect the Sense of Taste, Jack Clauson (St. Charles College)
The
top eight projects will proceed to the Regional Science Fair on April 6, 2019
at Laurentian University.
The annual Carousel event hosted by the Parent Involvement Committee occurred on March 5, 2019 at St. David School. We were happy to welcome parents, educators and community partners alike throughout the evening of learning and networking.
This year, Carousel topics included: Dealing with Anxiety, Indigenous Education Programming, Coding, Mathematics, The Leader in Me, Supporting Students with Autism, Human Trafficking, Vaping Building Resilience, speech and language services and special Education Services, including the IEP.

Staff and students wore their favourite pink shirts to celebrate #PinkShirtDay. Pink Shirt Day is celebrated each February to take a stand against bullying and promote inclusivity.
SPS Officer Cheryl Kennelly stopped in at Holy Trinity for a visit and a discussion with some of our students about why it is so important to spread kindness to others not only today, but every day.St. James staff stood together to promote Pink Shirt Day.

Congratulations to Mrs. Jutila’s Grade 8 Marymount Academy students Emma Vellow, Beth Richard, Odossa Oriakhi, Cassidy McLardie and Mackenzie Michalowicz (not pictured) for winning second place in the Ontario Catholic School Trustees Association video contest. The students created a video about how Marymount Academy students are “Community Builders.” The contest was province wide and these elementary students competed in the high school category! Way to go REGALS!
After 1 175 days of chemo, St. John School is thrilled to announce that brave Nicky Steinke is done his treatment and is an official Cancer Survivor! Surprised by mom with a bouquet of balloons and a bag full of snacks, Nicky celebrated his win along with school staff, Discovery Early Learning and Care, students and family. Swarmed by his schoolmates with hugs, cards and well wishes, Nicky also celebrated by ringing an old-fashioned school bell three times to mark his huge win and new beginning at school! Special guest, Cathy Burns, of the Canadian Cancer Society Sudbury and area, presented Nicky with a stuffed “survivor” animal as well as a baton that he is invited to bring to the Relay for Life 2019 being held at Laurentian University on Friday, June 21st. Congratulations Nicky – we are so proud of you!
