SCC Students to Send out Birthday Cards to WWII Vet
A World War two veteran is about to get a lot of St. Charles College fan mail!
In early February, the CBC News had posted an article about a WWII Vet, Fred Arsenault, who was looking forward to celebrating his 100th birthday on March 6th.
Because Mr. Arsenault enjoys receiving mail and the nostalgia it brings from days long ago, his son made an appeal on social media asking friends and family to send birthday cards to his father in hopes of receiving one hundred of them in time for the big event.
Students in 7A, 7C, 8D and the 7/8 class all heard about Mr. Arsenault and decided to make him 100 birthday cards from the students at SCC.
We’re sure he’s going to be super excited to receive all the beautiful cards the students made.
Bishop Alexander Carter Honours Student In Easter Seals Fundraiser
The leadership class organized a wonderful day to honor their fellow student Sebastien Parent. He is the Easter Seals Ambassador this year and they wanted to organize something special!

The boys and girls basketball teams played against the staff in front of a full gym of screaming gators.
Special shout-out to the cheerleading group who were awesome,Trenton our DJ, and Jackie the Sudbury 5 DJ who truly stole the show! Great times where had by all and the school raised $1025 for Easter Seals.

They also participated in simulations and games geared toward creating awareness. The event was organized by various community partners including GSPS, Public Health and Safety and Ministry of Transportation.
Marymount School Comes Together to Kick Off Annual Canned Food Drive
Marymount staff and students came together as a school community to celebrate and give thanks in the first annual Thanksgiving Luncheon. The event highlighted an awards ceremony for past and present students and served as the initial launch of our canned food drive in support of the Sudbury Food Bank. All students and staff enjoyed a catered lunch by Regency Bakery for the low price of a non-perishable food item.
“What a great opportunity for our Marymount community to come together, break bread and make new memories,” said Lori Holden, Principal of Marymount Academy. “It is also a beautiful way to kick off our annual canned food drive, with every student donating to an amazing cause.”
As the Marymount Food Drive ramps up, students may be visible within our community, and we encourage community members to give generously to those in need.

St. Benedict students show solidarity for those in the world dealing with forced migration
This past week, students in grade 10 classes walked to Mallard’s Landing to show support in ending forced migration of people. The students enjoyed a beautiful nature walk, something forced migrants don’t get a chance to enjoy when they are fleeing wars, persecution, natural disasters or extreme poverty.
The proceeds from this dress down day will go to support Development and Peace, a Catholic organization that works to promote this cause. The effort was part of the “Share the Journey” campaign that Pope Francis launched in 2017 to show solidarity for forced migrants.
More than five hundred dollars was collected for the charitable organization. The students also completed postcards that will be forwarded to Parliament Hill. So far more than 10 thousand of these postcards have been sent to Ottawa addressed to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
Way to go Bears! We stand in solidarity with 68.5 million children, women and men who have been forced to flee their homes.
