Sudbury Catholic Schools receive 13 awards at the Regional Science Fair

The Sudbury Regional Science Fair took place at Laurentian University on April 6-7.

24 students represented the Board from six different schools: St.Anne School, St. James School, St. John School, St. Benedict Catholic Secondary School, St. Charles College and Marymount Academy. The students presented 17 projects in total and showed passion and enthusiasm for each one!

Sudbury Catholic Schools earned 13 awards throughout the fair. Board results are as follows:

Carousel Event for parents, educators and community partners!

Our annual Carousel event hosted by the Catholic Parent Involvement Committee is fast approaching! We are very excited to welcome all parents, staff and community partners to this event for an evening of networking, learning and community building!

When: March 5, 2019 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Where: St. David School, 549 Frood Road

Carousel topics will include: Dealing with Anxiety, Indigenous Education Programming, Coding, Mathematics, The Leader in Me, Supporting Students with Autism, Human Trafficking, Vaping Building Resilience, speech and language services and special Education Services, including the IEP.

2019 Carousel Topics

Grade One Student – Stronger than Cancer!

After 1 175 days of chemo, St. John School is thrilled to announce that brave Nicky Steinke is done his treatment and is an official Cancer Survivor! Surprised by mom with a bouquet of balloons and a bag full of snacks, Nicky celebrated his win along with school staff, Discovery Early Learning and Care, students and family. Swarmed by his schoolmates with hugs, cards and well wishes, Nicky also celebrated by ringing an old-fashioned school bell three times to mark his huge win and new beginning at school! Special guest, Cathy Burns, of the Canadian Cancer Society Sudbury and area, presented Nicky with a stuffed “survivor” animal as well as a baton that he is invited to bring to the Relay for Life 2019 being held at Laurentian University on Friday, June 21st. Congratulations Nicky – we are so proud of you!

Sudbury Catholic Students Awarded as 2018 Stars of Excellence!

On Monday, April 23 the Final Concert of the Kiwanis Music Festival recognized the outstanding festival performances of many of our students!

Many students won individual awards for their vocal and instrumental performances! The Sudbury Catholic Schools Band was awarded Top Elementary School Concert Band, while the Marymount Academy Brass Quartet was awarded for for Secondary School Brass Ensemble!

Sudbury Catholic Schools Elementary Instrumental Band receives Gold at Kiwanis Music Festival!

On March 27th, the band performed at the Kiwanis Music Festival and received a Gold standard! The band has grown over the years, and includes 5 schools (St. Benedict, St. Charles College, St. Anne, St. John and St. James) and over 100 band members!

The band also competed at the Northern Ontario Music Festival on March 1 where they received a Silver standard. Congratulations to all band members!

St. John Jaguars host Volleyball Tournament at St. Charles College!

On January 20, the St. John Jaguars hosted a Junior Coed Volleyball Tournament at St. Charles College. It was a great day of volleyball for all 13 teams who participated. Thank you to all of our athletes, coaches, volunteers and parents who helped to make this tournament such a success. Congratulations to the following teams who finished in the top 4: 4th place – St. Francis, 3rd place – Helen Gravel, 2nd place – St. Anne and finishing in 1st place was Ste. Therese. Looking forward to seeing everybody again next season!

Their Story Begins Here – Kindergarten Registration info night taking place January 24!

Register with our schools during our Board wide information night occurring Wednesday, January 24 at 6 p.m!

These Information sessions are available for parents wanting to register their child(ren) for school beginning September 2018 (For children turning 4 years of age on or before December 31, 2018). If you are unable to attend these sessions at your school, we encourage you to contact the school to register on an alternative date. Both regular (English) and French Immersion programming is available.
