St. Charles Chelmsford raises over $20,000 for NOFCC!

St. Charles Catholic Elementary School held their 15th Annual Johnathan Hetu Walk on June 21, 2019. Johnathan was a student there when he passed away from cancer 15 years ago. David Nicholls, a teacher at the school has organized and held this fundraiser close to his heart for just as many years having been the one who started it. Mr. Nicholls recently passed away unexpectedly.

The St. Charles Catholic Elementary School community came together to raise over $20,000 to go toward the NOFCC (Northern Ontario Families of Children with Cancer). The money will be used to support families during medical appointments, treatments and more.

Sudbury Catholic Staff Celebrate Board Wide Wellness Day!

Wellness is the quality or state of being healthy in mind, body and spirit – especially as the result of deliberate effort. It is seen as an approach to healthcare that emphasizes preventing illness and prolonging life, as opposed to emphasizing treating diseases.

Sudbury Catholic Schools staff put their wellness first by participating in a Board Wide Wellness Day! Staff were encouraged to complete a wellness activity throughout their work day that would help enhance their mind, body and spirit. From walking to yoga, indulging in a healthy lunch or trying meditation, the possibilities seemed endless!

Great job by all participants!

Bathrooms in St. Charles Chelmsford get an inspirational makeover!

On Saturday April 28, parents, friends, students, the Principal and Vice Principal of St. Charles in Chelmsford worked to create a masterpiece in the bathrooms at the school. Roxanne Shebtschuk, a parent who volunteers on the school’s Catholic School Council, came up with the idea to paint the stalls with inspirational quotes connected to the learning that the students and staff are doing around Growth Mindset. Growth Mindset, as developed by researcher Carol Dweck, is an understanding that “most basic abilities can be developed through dedication and hard work—brains and talent are just the starting point.” Roxanne organized other Council volunteers who were interested in helping, and the project was born! The students were thrilled with their new and improved bathrooms. “We are so grateful to our parents for their hard work in support of the great learning that is happening at St. Charles,” said Principal David Soehner.

St. Charles School hosts successful families math night!

On Thursday, March 22 2018 St. Charles Elementary hosted a Math Night for their FDK and Grade 1 families. Parents and students visited five different stations where they engaged in activities focused on supporting the development of number sense and spatial reasoning skills. Each activity promoted the use of a model or manipulative to help visualize and represent thinking. To continue the learning at home, students left with an activity bag from every station, thanks to funding provided through the Ministry’s Parent Reaching Out Grant. A great time was had by all who attended!
