Sudbury Catholic Schools awarded as Stars of Excellence at 2017 Kiwanis Music Festival

Participant schools included Marymount Academy, St. Anne Catholic School, Holy Trinity Catholic School, Immaculate Conception, Holy Cross Catholic School, St.Benedict Catholic Secondary School, St. John Catholic School and St. Charles College.

The senior band and strings ensemble from Marymount Academy (pictured here) were recommended for the provincial competition.

Victors of Transition!

Jarah Preston from the Learning Disabilities Association of Sudbury was invited to St. Francis School on April 19, 2017 to deliver a presentation entitled Victors of Transition. The LDAS presentation is targeted to address all students in the grade 6 Regular, French Immersion and Special Education classes who will be transitioning onto grade 7 at either St. Benedict, Marymount Academy or St. Charles College in the fall. Special Education Resource Teacher, Ms. G. Visentin, annually welcomes the presentation to help prepare students and discuss how they may better prepare themselves for their transition to the next grade and new school setting in the fall.

Grade 8 Junior Cards are serious about Science

Grade 8 Cards were invited to the secondary wing at St. Charles College to learn about the different strands of science today.
The students were on rotations all day to learn about biology, technology, earth sciences, chemistry and physics in order to prepare them for next year.

The students did everything from building bridges and water filtration systems to studying onions and cheek cells under a microscope.

They were then treated to a pizza lunch and lime green Science shirts for an upcoming Cards Wear day.
The Secondary Science team organized this day under the direction of Program Leader Tim Kingshott.

Sudbury Catholic Elementary Band takes silver, gold at the Northern Ontario Music Festival

It’s Festival season, and the Sudbury Catholic Elementary Band did not disappoint! This band is made up of 125 students from 6 schools – St. Charles College, St. Benedict, St. Anne, St. Charles Chelmsford, St. John and St. James – and is directed by Leanne Urso, JoAnne Comisso, Sabrina Clark and Eric Miron.

The students competed at the Northern Ontario Music Festival on Tuesday, March 21st at Sudbury Secondary School and came away with a Silver award. Then, on Tuesday, April 4th, the band competed at the Kiwanis Music Festival at St. Benedict School and improved on their score by winning a Gold award! Congratulations goes out to all the band members for all their hard work.

MMA students take gold at qualifications for Skills Ontario Competition, move on to provincial finals

Congratulations to Hannah Watterson & Brittany Thornton (grade 10 students) for winning gold in the Northern Ontario qualifications for video production at the Skills Ontario Competitions in North Bay this weekend. Next they will be competing in the provincial Skills-Ontario competition in Toronto! Congratulations Regals!!

Dario Zulich visits his old high school

Last week, students in the St. Charles College Business High Skills Major along with students taking a senior business classes got to hear from a high profile business owner in the city.
Mr. Dario Zulich is a proud graduate of St. Charles College and came to talk to them about Zulich Enterprises, TESC and his recently acquired ownership of the Sudbury Wolves.

Mr. Zulich reminisced about his days here at S.C.C. along with his brothers. He also talked about the Wolves playoff run.
Mrs. Burch set-up the visit and said the students were intrigued by his story and his passion for business studies.

St. Charles College Presents Grease

Grease is a musical about teens in love in the 50’s! Its California 1959 and greaser Danny Zuko and Sandy Olsson are in love. They spend time at the beach, and when they go back to school, what neither of them knows is that they both now attend Rydell High. Danny’s the leader of the T-Birds, a group of black leather jacket-wearing greasers while Sandy hangs with the Pink Ladies, a group of pink-wearing girls led by Rizzo. When they clash at Rydell’s first pep rally, Danny isn’t the same Danny from the beach. They try to be like each other so they can be together.

April 4th – 8th at 7:30pm | $10 per Ticket – 6 & Under Free

Senior Cards invited to travel to Costa Rica

Next year, senior St. Charles College students are invited to travel to Costa Rica, while earning a senior credit. Students will be able to visit a remote ecolodge, work with local children, go surfing in the ocean, learn some Spanish, and lots of other adventure activities.

Cards Crunch Celery

More than 11 hundred students at St. Charles College bit down on sticks of celery this morning to celebrate the BIG CRUNCH.
The big crunch is an annual event each year in Ontario to celebrate Nutrition Awareness month.

The St. Charles College event was organized by teacher Julie Jessop as part of her Foods classes.
Many schools opted for apples but St. Charles decided to go green for their synchronized crunch.
