St. Charles College students recently visited the students and staff of St. Andrew Catholic Elementary School to kick off their canned food drive with the elementary students. The students at St. Charles College hold the biggest canned food drive in the city annually with this year’s goal topping over 60,000 cans. SCC Students visit the schools in the New Sudbury Area asking for their support with this very important cause.

Super Hero Day at St. Andrew
Friday June 7th was Super Hero Day at St. Andrew Catholic Elementary School. The school was teaming with Super Girls, Bat Men, Super Men, Transformers and Hulks to name a few. The staff, always willing to join in, wore their Super Teacher t-shirts. St. Andrew Visits Science North
On Thursday May 16th the entire student body and staff of St. Andrew Catholic Elementary School travelled to Science North and spent the day exploring the centre. Thanks to the generosity of a devoted group of parents who volunteer their personal time to work at a bingo the school enjoys a Science North membership and the busing to and from the Science Centre plus many other extracurricular activities. The JK/SK class has just completed a themed unit on space and all the children are very aware of astronaut Chris Hadfield and his recent expedition in space so they were excited to see the life-sized cut out of him at the Centre. This group also participated in the Music Monday Activity where they sang simultaneously with Chris Hadfield while he was still at the Internatinal Space Station.
Welcome to Kindergarten at St. Andrew
On Wednesday May 15th at 6pm St. Andrew Catholic Elementary School welcomed 11 young children and their parents to their Welcome to Kindergarten evening. The school partnered with the Learning Partnership and our community partners Angela an OT from the Children’s Treatment Center and Cheryl the teacher from the New Sudbury Cooperative Nursery School to give the students and their parents some tools to help them be prepared for school in the fall. There was a read-aloud, a letters and numbers activity, craft and a delicious nutrious snack of fruit, meat and cheese. Thanks goes out to Mrs. Waugh and Mrs. Sawkiw from the school who made this such a fun evening.
Wacky Hair Day at St. Andrew
Spring might be slow in poking it’s head out but the staff and students of St. Andrew Catholic Elementary School spread some smiles and happiness on Friday April 5th as they sported Wacky Hair for the day. Some came to school with bed head others created stunning off the wall coiffures and others had creative colours. Pictured is Myles from SK with his “skunk” look.
St. Andrew – Home to a Spelling Bee Champ!
The Staff and students at St. Andrew Catholic Elementary School are very proud to announce that Isaiah Uche from grade 3 has won first place in the city annual Spelling Bee Competition that was held on April 7th at Tom Davies Square. Pictured proudly holding his trophy is Isaiah.
Franco-Fun Day at St. Andrew
The students of St. Andrew Catholic Elementary School celebrated Franco-Fun day recently by beginning the day with O Canada in French. As well, during the morning announcements they learned about the history of Franco-Fun Day. Later on in the day the junior core french students, with their teacher Mr. Mailloux, created francophone flags of the various provinces. A Message of Easter at St. Andrew
St. Andrew Catholic Elementary School students in grade two learned the Resurrection Story in a unique way this Easter season. The students discussed Jesus’ passion and death through scripture and by creating an egg carton of Resurrection Eggs. Each of the twelve eggs was filled with a small memento to remind them of Jesus’ journey from Palm Sunday to Easter the day of Resurrection. Each student went home with their own carton of Resurrection eggs ready to retell the Easter story to family and friends. Pictured is Hope Buffan with her carton of Resurrection Eggs.
Pink Shirt Day at St. Andrew
February 27th was “Pink Shirt Day.” as the students and staff at St. Andrew Catholic Elementary School were encouraged to wear pink shirts. Everyone in the school , whether wearing pink or not said “we do not tolerate bullying in the school, at home, at the workplace or on the internet. ”
