Students from St. Andrew, St. Bernadette and St. St. Raphael Catholic Elementary Schools came together in prayer to celebrate Catholic Youth Day at St. Andrew the Apostle Church.
The three schools will form Holy Trinity Catholic School in the fall. This is the first time all three student bodies came together in the church to celebrate the Eucharist. Students at all three schools helped in the mass presenting the readings, altar serving and forming a choir. Father Sam D’Angelo presided over the mass.

Connecting with Community Partners at St. John
During Catholic Education Week, St. John Catholic Elementary School students in Mrs. Vendramin’s grade 1 social studies class enjoyed a visit from Constable Coluzzi. The police officer was asked to answer some questions that the students developed together before having an opportunity to sit in the Greater Sudbury Police’s brand new dodge charger. Students learned the value of having police officers as one of our community partners.
Singing in Celebration at St. Bernadette
The St. Bernadette Catholic School Choir, led by Mme Begic, practice a song over the morning announcements. They performed for the Catholic Youth Day mass celebrated at St. Andrew the Apostle Church. They sang the theme song for Catholic Education Week, “Exploring Paths of Joy.”
Faith Based Play Day at St. Andrew
St. Andrew Catholic Elementary School celebrated Catholic Education week with a Faith Based Play Day. Each classroom teacher and the Core French teacher lead the teams of children in faith based activities. There was singing, creating a story, forgiveness melts a frozen heart activity , love letters, the parable of the Good Samaratin and discussion of the miracles of Jesus. Pictured is the group who explored “what joy means to me.” Thank you to each teacher who planned, organized and led each team in an activity.
Exploring Paths of Joy at St. Charles Elementary
To prepare for this year’s Catholic Education Week theme, “Exploring Paths of Joy”, St. Charles Catholic Elementary School students created their own unique footprint to symbolize their personal journey within our school community. The footprints were put together by Mme Bouzane’s class to make a giant quilt!
Students in all grades enjoy walking past the mural to admire the many patterns and designs and to find their own!
Planting Seeds of Joy at St. John
During Catholic Education Week at St. John Catholic Elementary School, Mrs. Gionet’s grade 1/2 class enjoyed listening to the book “The Tiny Seed” before having the opportunity to plant some flowers and vegetables with trustee Nancy Deni.
Young St. Bernadette Poets Get Noticed
The students of St. Bernadette Catholic Elementary School were in the spotlight at a Poetry Café hosted at Chapters for Catholic Education week. Their tremendous creativity caught the eye of Tom Leduc, Sudbury’s Poet Laureate. Leduc was in attendance and is interested in featuring some of the poetic versus on his website which is featured on the Greater Sudbury Public Library website.
The poems presented were written by students as part of their poetry study for Language Arts classes. Topics included: My family, my sibling, my pet, the environment and even one about tacos.
Paths of Joy at St. Francis
Life Skills Primary/Junior students at St. Francis Catholic Elementary School were very excited to work on their ‘Path of Joy’ Project. When the students were asked ‘What are some of God’s creations that you will find when you go for a walk on the path?’, the students shouted out answers such as ants, ladybugs, flowers, and birds. ‘The students had a fantastic time creating the artwork for their display; listening and singing to music and a few even took a break between crafts and started dancing. It is a joy to see the children engaged and having fun while learning – that’s what it’s all about’ says Tina Timpano, Vice-Principal. The students, staff and parents love the beautiful artwork display that ‘brightens up the stairwell with joy’ during Catholic Education Week.
MMA Regals Inspired by Olympic Gold Medalist
Olympic gold medal curler Brad Jacobs visited Marymount Academy on Monday May 4 to speak to the students about following their passions and not giving up on their dreams. Jacobs recalled his gold medal experience and explained that he has always been passionate about curling. By following his passion, he was able to inspire a nation and make his dreams comes true. The students were riveted by his experiences and were inspired by the champion and his tales of the Olympics.
