Dan Levecque presented Julie Dion and Nancy Thompson with the William Henry Memorial Cup on April 3, 2019. The WILLIAM HENRY MEMORIAL CUP: Awarded to the affiliated school with the largest lifesaving program in Ontario. St. Charles College currently holds the Cup.

Students at St. Joseph in Killarney were treated to a day outside to do some physical literacy.
Mr. Blackwell, who specializes in Outdoor Education discussed habitats and how animals survive winter. The students then looked for clues/signs that animals leave behind and the stories they can tell us. The students also became ‘nature detectives’ in search for clues such as tracks, scat, chew marks and the sounds of geese.
To finish the day, they made pine cone bird feeders to take home and even hung one in the school groun
We wish to congratulate Anh Nguyen, Phillip Tran and Zihao Wang who won a video contest which involved creating a video in regards to their experience in Canada and with Sudbury Catholic and their host family.
Anh, Phillip and Zihao won a $500 scholarship to put towards next year’s tuition. They received their scholarships from Superintendent Mr. Papineau.
St. Benedict took home its first OFSAA gold medal banner in Alpine Ski this season.OFSAA Alpine skiing was held in Collingwood at Osler Bluff Ski Club under adverse skiing conditions. The first day of racing got cancelled due to weather conditions, and the second day brought white out conditions. But the athletes prevailed and brought home the first OFSAA banner after competing at this level for a number of years.

Monica Dailey, one of the coaches says the win is “by far the most success the school team has had to date and with only two of the students graduating, there could be more success to come.”
The team was also coached by teacher John McDonald.
Vocal group students from St. Charles College performed with the band Foreigner last week during their concert at the Sudbury Arena.
The performance was part of a contest that the school won. The contest saw many schools within the City audition, and SCC was chosen as the winners!

St. Francis Catholic Elementary School continues to partner with families to support student improvement in mathematics. Students and staff hosted Family Math Day on March 7th. Families were invited into the school to participate in math games and activities with their children and learned some simple ways they can positively contribute to their child’s math learning – by counting money and telling time with their child.
Beverly Lavallie, St. Francis School Intensive Support Facilitator stated, “successful home / school relationships take time to build. The more opportunities families have to be in the school and see for themselves the great learning that is happening each day, the more our relationships develop. We are so thankful of the families that came to this special event. Our students love having special guests in the school and we hope that the families enjoy it as much as we do.”
The Royal Canadian Legion was at St. Anne Catholic Elementary School to celebrate the many winners of the Remembrance Day Poster and Essay Contest. Tyler Rideout, Grade 8 Student won the Gold Medal for his Remembrance Day Essay. The school community came together to congratulate Tyler and had the pleasure of hearing Tyler’s very moving essay first hand. Tyler’s essay has now been submitted Provincially.
The Sudbury Catholic District School Board held a Board Wide Science Fair on March 7, 2019 at St. Charles College.
The fair included 40 projects which were presented by students in Grade 7 and 8. Scientists from Science North attended the event to serve as judges. Project topics included: exploring the human body, radiation, plant growth experiments, nutrition and much more!
The winners of this year’s Science Fair were as follows:
First Place: A Brighter Idea, Isabella Pandolfo (Marymount Academy)
Second Place: The Medi Talk, Hayley Wood (Marymount Academy)
Third Place: Does Colour Affect the Sense of Taste, Jack Clauson (St. Charles College)
The top eight projects will proceed to the Regional Science Fair on April 6, 2019 at Laurentian University.
Students at Holy Cross school have created ‘God Boxes’ out of cards. The students designed and created the boxes themselves. The God Box is then filled with tangible things that remind the children what to thank God for, and what to pray for. Each student personalized their own box, and were encouraged to bring these boxes home, and continue to fill them with new hopes and prayers.
Each box also had a special letter attached. Father’s Love Letter” is a paraphrased compilation of bible verses that is presented in the form of a letter from God to his children.
