The Sudbury Catholic District School Board elected the new chair and vice-chair at the Inaugural meeting of the board held at the Catholic Education Centre on December 5, 2006. Paula Peroni returns as Board Chair having served previously as Chair of the Board from 1999 to 2001 and from 2004 to 2006. She is also currently the vice-president of the Ontario Catholic School Trustees’ Association (OCSTA) and the first vice-president of the Canadian Catholic School Trustees’ Association (CCSTA).

In returning to her role as Chair, Peroni commented. “It is indeed a great pleasure to resume the position as Chair of the Sudbury Catholic District School Board. Our successes as a Board are a tribute to the teamwork, cooperation and dedication of our students, parents, staff and partners in education. I look forward to continuing to build on these strong relationships to strengthen the unique partnership of home, school and parish which serves as the foundation of Catholic Education.”

George Middleton will assume the position of Vice-Chair of the Sudbury Catholic District School Board. Mr. Middleton is serving his sixth term as Trustee and has held the position as vice-chair on a previous occasion. “I would like to thank my fellow colleagues and members of the board for placing their confidence in me and allowing me to take on the role as Vice-Chair,” stated Middleton. “We will continue to work closely with the board’s senior administrative team in order to best serve the needs our students.”

Operation Christmas Child

Through Samaritan’s Purse, a Christian Humanitarian Organization, the students at Immaculate Conception School in Val Caron have been busy collecting as many items as possible to fill 100 gift boxes to be transported all over the world through the Christmas Shoe Box Campaign, Operation Christmas Child.

Each of the classes at Immaculate was responsible for collecting items ranging from basic toiletries to small toys that will be distributed to less fortunate children so that they too may have the joy of opening a Christmas present this holiday season.
Congratulations to Immaculate Conception students, staff and parents in making Operation Christmas Child such a huge success.
