Holy Trinity teaches students about the Seven Grandfather teachings!

The Native Language students at Holy Trinity Catholic School embarked on a campaign of education. Students promoted and educated their peers on the seven grandfather teachings, drumming and the importance of Mother nature. This day of learning and sharing was facilitated by Ms. Dawn Fielding, Native Language teacher.

“This was a wonderful opportunity for our grade 6 students to be leaders in learning; their enthusiasm and passion for sharing their cultural knowledge was infectious and my kindergarten friends were thrilled to create music with drums and learn about the importance of respecting our earth” said, Ms. Kelly Beaton, FDK teacher.

Students thrive under Northern Fruit and Veggie program!

At Pius XII every Tuesday is a Tasty one! Throughout the year our students are provided a nutritious fruit and vegetable snack on Tasty Tuesdays. Thanks to organizations like Sudbury Better Beginnings Better Futures and the Ministry of Health’s Northern Fruit and Vegetable Program, we receive funding that goes toward purchasing fruit, vegetables, grains or dairy. Nutritious snacks are available everyday at our school, however Tuesdays are the special day of the week where students get to sample a fruit or vegetable that might be new to them. This nutrition program brings staff and parents together to make it successful for our school community.

Crystal balling their 2024 High School Grad

This week, more than 250 prospective students and their families flocked to the St. Benedict Catholic School Open House event. The purpose of the event is to educate parents and their children about the benefits of choosing the school in the fall of 2018 for grade 7 or 9. The students had to complete a “pawport” by visiting different parts of the building to complete activities such as making bathbombs in Science, trying their hand at programming in the Learning Commons and making buttons in the art room.

Before they departed, students were invited to take a parting picture with green screen technology. They posed and then chose traditional or really fun backgrounds for their photos.

St. Francis School Raises Over $2000 for Ronald McDonald House!

In the month of August, St. Francis School received news that one of their students was ill. He was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer and needed immediate treatment in Toronto. Matthew and his family are considered part or our St. Francis FLAMES family, so it was only natural to want to help”, says Principal, Ms. Timpano. A school EA, Mrs. Miscio, came up with the idea of having ‘Mondays for Matthew”, where students brought in change on each Monday in December and all proceeds go to Ronald McDonald house in Toronto. “St. Francis Charity Champs from Mrs. DeAngelis and Mrs. Mallette’s class took the lead and made ‘change cans’ for each classroom. The fundraiser has been a tremendous success! The school has currently raised $1000.00 and continue to collect funds. All funds raised in the month of December are matched by a donor, Michael Higgins. With his contribution, our fundraiser will bring in well over $2000.00 for Ronald McDonald House.”, says Mrs. Miscio. St. Francis students, staff and parents are thrilled to be able to help Matthew and others like him who continue to need life saving treatments away from home.
