Sudbury Catholic Board Announces New Superintendent of Education

The Sudbury Catholic District School Board is pleased to announce the appointment of Lucie Cullen as the new Superintendent of Education for the Sudbury Catholic District School Board. Mrs. Cullen replaces Rossella Bagnato who will vacate the position to assume the role of Interim Director of Education with the Board effective
January 1, 2007.

Mrs. Cullen possesses a Master of Arts degree from the University of Toronto, and a Bachelor of Education and a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Laurentian University. She is well qualified to assume the role of Superintendent of Education having accumulated more than 16 years of teaching and administrative experience in both the elementary and secondary panels as a teacher, vice-principal and principal.

In assuming her new position as Superintendent Mrs. Cullen stated that, “I am excited to be part of the Senior Administrative Team that promotes within the Sudbury Catholic District School Board the goals of academic excellence, spiritual growth and community service.”

Paula Peroni, Chair of the Board is pleased with the appointment of Mrs. Cullen to the position of Superintendent. “It is with a great deal of pleasure that the Board announces Mrs. Cullen as our Superintendent of Education. Mrs. Cullen not only possesses the academic, curriculum and administrative skills necessary for this position but she also brings with her a deep commitment to Catholic Education. Her strong community contacts and her aptitude for working with people as a team player make her an asset to this board.”

Zandra Zubac, Director of Education for the Sudbury Catholic Board echoed Mrs. Peroni’s comments. “I have known Lucie Cullen both personally and professionally for many years and I am thrilled to have her join our senior administrative team,” stated Zubac. “She has earned the respect of her peers and has an excellent reputation as a capable leader and will bring forth a high degree of competence and professionalism in her new role as Superintendent.”

Mrs. Cullen assumes her new position with the Board effective, January 1, 2007.

The 13 locations of the Greater Sudbury Public Library and the Citizen Service Centres will follow the following modified hours of operation during the holiday season:

Sunday, December 24, – Closed
Monday, December 25 – Closed
Tuesday, December 26 – Closed
December 27,28, 29, 30 -regular hours
Sunday, December 31 – Closed
Monday, January 1 – Closed

SCDSB Elects Chair and Vice-Chair at Inaugural Meeting

The Sudbury Catholic District School Board elected the new chair and vice-chair at the Inaugural meeting of the board held at the Catholic Education Centre on December 5, 2006. Paula Peroni returns as Board Chair having served previously as Chair of the Board from 1999 to 2001 and from 2004 to 2006. She is also currently the vice-president of the Ontario Catholic School Trustees’ Association (OCSTA) and the first vice-president of the Canadian Catholic School Trustees’ Association (CCSTA).

In returning to her role as Chair, Peroni commented. “It is indeed a great pleasure to resume the position as Chair of the Sudbury Catholic District School Board. Our successes as a Board are a tribute to the teamwork, cooperation and dedication of our students, parents, staff and partners in education. I look forward to continuing to build on these strong relationships to strengthen the unique partnership of home, school and parish which serves as the foundation of Catholic Education.”

George Middleton will assume the position of Vice-Chair of the Sudbury Catholic District School Board. Mr. Middleton is serving his sixth term as Trustee and has held the position as vice-chair on a previous occasion. “I would like to thank my fellow colleagues and members of the board for placing their confidence in me and allowing me to take on the role as Vice-Chair,” stated Middleton. “We will continue to work closely with the board’s senior administrative team in order to best serve the needs our students.”
