As we open our doors for the 2026–2027 school year, I am filled with incredible hope and excitement for what lies ahead. Returning to our schools each fall is a reminder of the vibrant, faith-filled community we share across Sudbury Catholic Schools.
This year marks a pivotal moment for our board as we officially launch our new Multi-Year Strategic Plan (MYSP). This plan is our roadmap for the future- a collective vision built on input from our staff, families, parish partners, and students. Over the next five years, every initiative, classroom milestone, and community effort will tie directly back to our four core pillars. Throughout this school year, we will be sharing stories from across our elementary and secondary schools that highlight how our students and staff are bringing these goals to life.

Passionate about mentorship and fostering strong community connections, Lisa is committed to empowering educators, supporting diverse student needs, and ensuring every student thrives across our system.

Pillar 1: Living Catholic Identity
Mass Formation with Deacon Bruno: Grade 7–9 students meet in the chapel to learn the traditions and meaning of the Catholic Mass, preparing them for liturgical leadership throughout the year (including a School Mass on Oct 6). Plus: September Canned Food Drive!
Pillar 2: Welcoming, Inclusive, and Safe Schools
Indigenous Cultural Programming: St. Charles College’s Indigenous Social Worker facilitates hands-on, curriculum-linked sessions for Grade 7/8 classes, bringing authentic teachings and perspectives into the classroom. Plus: International Club welcome events, including student cooking nights!
Pillar 3: Achievement & Future Pathways
Junk Drawer Races: Intermediate students tackle hands-on STEM engineering challenges to build trade-related skills and prepare for the Skills Ontario Elementary Competitions.
Secondary Math Gap-Closing: Targeted numeracy courses give students structured support to master core concepts and keep post-secondary pathways open.
Building Thinking Classrooms & Magma Math: Elementary and secondary educators’ partner across grade levels to align instruction, easing the transition from Grade 8 to 9 while deepening students’ math confidence.

Grade 7/8 Math Connect: Grade 7 and 8 students participate in a mathematics rotary model to learn with dedicated specialist instructors (Ms. Kilby, Mr. Blackwell, Mr. Butler, Ms. Belle). Utilizing interactive tools like Edwin, Mathology, Knowledgehook, and Magma Math, teachers deliver targeted, real-world problem solving that addresses learning gaps, builds critical thinking, and prepares students for future pathways.

Personalized & Responsive Numeracy Support: By learning with a math intervention support teacher (MIST), students benefit from consistent relationships, individualized support, and responsive instruction tailored to their unique strengths, learning styles, and confidence.

Pillar 1: Living Catholic Identity
Alpha Faith Partnership: Building on the success of its inaugural year, St. Albert Learning Centre is continuing its partnership with Christ the King Parish to offer the Alpha program to secondary students. Each weekly gathering centres around sharing a meal, reflecting on Jesus’ example of breaking bread together, and engaging in open conversations about faith, life, purpose, and belonging.
Pillar 2: Welcoming, Inclusive, and Safe Schools
Alpha Faith Safe Space: This initiative provides a safe, welcoming, and non-judgmental space for students to explore their faith, connect with peers, and deepen their relationships with the parish community.
Marymount Academy
Pillar 3: Achievement & Future Pathways
Medical Biology Course: The Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM) and Health Sciences North (HSN) will visit Marymount Academy for a special networking afternoon. This session directly supports student success by exploring career opportunities in healthcare through the SHSM Health and Wellness program and introducing a brand-new Medical Biology course.

Pillar 2: Welcoming, Inclusive, and Safe Schools
Recognizing Community & Contributions: Aligned with board leadership goals, staff award points to students for positive contributions, teamwork, perseverance, supporting school events, and taking ownership of positive changes in their own learning to ensure every student feels seen and valued.
Pillar 3: Achievement & Future Pathways
Gator Grade Points: This student-led program for Grades 7–12 builds school spirit and friendly competition through traditions like the Spirit Cup, Fall Pep Rally, and Spirit Week. Students earn points by living out their faith – showing kindness, supporting peers, and joining school events – as well as achieving personal goals in academics, tech, athletics, and the arts.

When I look at our new Multi-Year Strategic Plan, I don’t just see a set of administrative goals or policy statements – I see the future of our children, our staff, and our faith community.
As an educator and leader, my core passion has always been creating environments where every single student feels seen, valued, and empowered to reach their full, God-given potential. This plan is deeply personal to me because it reflects the real stories, hopes, and feedback shared directly by our parents, educators, and students. Every pillar represents a promise we are making to our community: to deepen our Catholic identity, ensure our schools are safe and welcoming, push the boundaries of academic achievement, and hold ourselves to the highest standard of system excellence.
Implementing this strategic plan isn’t a top-down initiative; it is a shared journey that requires all of us working together. I am genuinely honored to walk alongside our incredible educators, administrators, families, and parish partners as we bring this vision to life across Sudbury Catholic Schools.
