New Teacher Induction Program

The Sudbury Catholic District School Board is committed to supporting professional learning of our staff. New teachers in their first and second year and first and second time occasional teachers (more than 97 days) are enrolled in the New Teacher Induction Program (NTIP).

What is NTIP?

The New Teacher Induction Program (NTIP) supports the growth and professional development of new teachers. It is the second step in a continuum of professional development for teachers to support effective teaching, learning, and assessment practices, building on and complementing the first step: pre-service education programs. It provides another full year of professional support so that new teachers can develop the requisite skills and knowledge that will enable them to achieve success as experienced teachers in Ontario. By helping new teachers achieve their full potential, the NTIP supports our Board’s vision of being leaders in learning and faith.

For the purposes of the NTIP, new teachers are defined as all new teachers certified by the Ontario College of Teachers who have been hired into permanent positions – full-time or part-time – by a school board to begin teaching for the first time in Ontario.

The NTIP in our Board consists of the following induction elements:

  • Orientation for all new teachers to the school and school board.
  • Mentoring for new teachers by experienced teachers.
  • Professional development and training in areas such as Literacy and Numeracy strategies, Student Success, Safe Schools, classroom management; effective parent communication skills; and instructional strategies that address the learning of all students, including students with special needs and other diverse learners.
