2023 Summer Learning Opportunities

Elementary Students

The Sudbury Catholic District School Board is committed to supporting your child’s continued learning this summer. Beginning Tuesday, August 8, 2023, Sudbury Catholic will be offering three weeks of in-person FREE Literacy and Numeracy learning supports for students currently in Senior Kindergarten to Grade 6. 

If you are interested in your child bridging the gaps in their learning, making new friends, working on literacy and numeracy skills through fun and engaging activities, then this program is for your family!

Students will…

  • Engage in fun literacy/numeracy activities preparing them for the next school year;
  • Be served healthy snacks daily and will participate in regular physical activities that emphasize teamwork, technical skills and sportsmanship;
  • Receive an integrated arts education which will be designed each week to promote creative thinking through music, drama and visual art;
  • Access to the latest technology including iPads, robots and more;
  • Make new friends and develop confidence in themselves to start a new school year!

Summer Literacy/Numeracy Program Details

DATE: August 8- August 25, 2023

LOCATION: Holy Cross School | 2997 Algonquin Rd, Sudbury, ON

TIME: 8:30 a.m.-12 p.m. (No transportation will be provided)

Secondary Students

This summer, the Sudbury Catholic District School board will be offering a variety of summer school options for secondary students. Registration for our summer programs is already open.  There are 5 types of summer school programs available:

Summer School Courses will include a mix of face-2-face learning at Marymount Academy, live online lessons, and independent work. Students attend large group lessons, small group or individual tutorials, and complete assignments and small group skills practice during their class time. These courses apply to both GLS1O courses. Below is a breakdown of the schedule:

Land-Based Learning is only face-2-face and is delivered in the community of Atikameksheng Anishnawbek. This course is from Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Please note that this course is for Indigenous students only. Indigenous grade 8 students going into grade 9 in September, 2023 are eligible to attend.

Summer eLearning Courses are completed online with the guidance and support of the course eLearing teacher. Students will work five to six hours a day Monday-Friday to complete the full course. Our eLearning courses do not have an exam but do require the completion of a culminating activity. These courses are full-credit secondary courses. 

Online Summer Courses are for credit recovery only and are completed synchronously and asynchronously.

CO-OP has a required online component to be completed in May. Students must work from July 4 to August 4, 2023. This is a two-credit course.
